Udupi, May 23: Social and cultural activist and art lover B Ravindra Kotian (67), resident of Adi Udupi here, was killed in an accident that occurred at Nittoor junction on national highway near here, on Friday May 22.

Kotian, who has the hobby of overseeing house construction works of his near ones, was returning to his home after visiting the house site of a friend in Nittoor village near here. A mini lorry hit the two-wheeler of which he was the pillion rider, from the rear. Ravindra, who was grievously injured in the accident, was admitted into a hospital in Manipal. However, he failed to respond to treatments and breathed his last a short time thereafter.

Ravindra was actively involved with various art and cultural organizations, and was functioning as the joint secretary of 'Ranabhoomi', a theatre organization and as the office bearer of Yakshagana Kalaranga and Udupi Tulukoota. He was originally from Barke in Mangalore and had retired after working in the local office of Life Insurance Corporation of India in Ajjarkad for 41 years, in the year 2002. He was actively involved with various cultural, social and religious programmes held in the town and surrounding areas.

Kotian is survived by mother, wife and a son.  Minister Dr V S Acharya, MLA K Raghupati Bhat, office bearers of the organizations he was working with and office bearers of Madhushree Publications Kidiyoor have expressed grief over his untimely death.
