Udupi, Jul 4: Karnataka State Government Primary Schools Graduate Teachers' Association, will stage a protest on July 7 at Syndicate circle, Manipal here, said district president Ravi S Poojary.

He was speaking at Udupi press club here on Wednesday, July 3. He said, “In Karnataka, primary teachers are eligible to teach first standard to seven and eighth standard. According to the Cadre and Recruitment Rules, August 7, 2017 those teachers appointed to primary schools prior to 2014, who did not have a graduate degree, designated as 'Primary School Teachers', will be able to teach students only up to class 5. Only those designated as `Graduate Primary Teachers', who held degrees at the time of their appointment, will be permitted to teach students of classes 6, 7 and 8.

“The new circular says that those eligible teachers are demoted and will be permitted to teach students of classes one to fifth only. The government has done injustice to them. Moreover, teachers working at present are demotivated. Primary teachers are sad over the sudden change in rules,” he said.

“The association also pressurises to merge the newly prepared Cadre (6-8th class). Condemning the sudden changes in rules, the state's primary school teachers will hold protest,” he said.

Prashant Shetty Havanje, honorary president, Ramachandra Vakuda, general secretary, Satish Poojary, treasurer, Ganesh Kumar Shetty, Manjunath Devadiga, Savitha and Yashoda Hegde were present at the press meet.
