Mysuru: Hepatitis infection to 28 patients - Five dismissed for negligence

Mysuru, Jan 4: Through an order, five health officials attached to the government hospital at K R Nagar taluk here have been dismissed from service. They have been accused of helping the hepatitis C virus to spread to 28 patients who got treatment here, by not sanitizing the dialysis machine.

The department has said that it will take the responsibility of providing free treatment to all the patients who fell ill till they are fully healed.

During the tests conducted at a private hospital at K R Nagar, it was revealed that 32 persons suffered from Hepatitis C infection as the same machine was used to administer the medicine through a single machine. All 32 samples had also been sent to Manipal Hospital for testing to make doubly sure. The report found presence of hepatitis infection in28 patients. As it was prima facie found that virus of DYFI were present in 28 cases, the staff deputed by a private organization to handle the dialysis unit were dismissed from service as prima facie they were found guilty of negligence.
