Puttur, Jul 4: Out of rice supplied to Haradi school in the town under the government’s midday meal scheme, 11 sacks of rice were found to have gone missing mysteriously. On the basis of a complaint made in this respect by the school development and monitoring committee, zillla panchayat Akshara Dasoha education officer Rajalaxmi, led a team to the school on Wednesday July 3.

The team conducted verification and checked stock of other items. There had been complaint that 11 sacks of rice had been transported elsewhere from the school. In the stock report, it was mentioned that all the children present in the school are partaking food in the afternoon but there was information that a number of students do not have lunch in the school and therefore the rice spent per day was considerably less.

31 sacks of rice had been delivered to school on June 24 but during verification on June 27, 11 sacs were found missing. School development and monitoring committee had brought this issue to the notice of taluk panchayat president, Radhakrishna Borkar.

Rajalaxmi was accompanied by taluk panchayat executive officer, Jagadish S, and taluk Akshara Dasoha director, Suresh Kumar, among others. The team also questioned the headmaster of the school. The officials refused to divulge their findings and said they would furnish a report to the zilla panchayat.
