Bantwal, Jun 3: The tension that encompassed Nettarakere, Kumudelu and other villages near Farangipet after the bloody attack on two persons there on the night on Monday June 1, has since eased and normalcy has been restored. Both Vishwanath Kulal (35) and Suresh Kulal (35) who were assaulted with lethal weapons have been operated upon and shifted to the wards from the intensive care units in a local hospital.

After the incident, the situation had turned tense, as people from various places in the district rushed to the village which witnessed the incident. The policemen with their timely action and deployment of personnel at strategic points, succeeded in bringing the situation under control. The policemen have taken into custody six persons for interrogation in connection with the said assault.

It is learnt, the two who were inflicted with serious injuries, had never taken part in any anti-social activities. Vishwanath is from Nettarakere in Kallige village, works in a saw mill and functions as the secretary of the local Kulal Sangh. Suresh from Nettarakere is a former gram panchayat member and secretary of Pudu village BJP committee. Both of them reportedly rushed to a neighbouring house after they were hit on the heads and hands all of a sudden and shouted for help. As a vehicle approached in that direction, the miscreants fled. Reportedly, the injured men identified one of the assaulters as Imtiaz.

The people have expressed anger at the attack on innocent persons. Police contingents have been deployed at various places to ensure that miscreants do not try to take advantage of the fragile situation. In the meantime, inspector general of police Gopal Hosur said, that the police personnel have been asked to fire at any one carrying swords or any other lethal weapons in their possession. He was speaking at Bantwal rural police station to the reporters, after visiting the villages on Tuesday June 2. He also warned, that if the situation does not improve, the department may be forced to order closure of all the business establishments in the area after 7 pm every day and such other steps as may be deemed necessary.  He also revealed that there has been a suggestion to open a temporary police station in Farangipet.

Superintendent of police Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, Puttur assistant superintendent of police Chandragupta, circle inspectr Nanjunde Gowda, sub inspector Shivaprakash and Venkatesh were present.
