Mangalore: District Administration Enforces Fishing Ban

Mangalore, Jun 6: Like every year, this year too fishing activity during the monsoon months has been banned, for helping the fish to breed and also in view of the dangers the volatile climate poses to the fishermen. The ban, enforced by orders issued by the deputy commissioner, will be in force for 57 days from June 15 to August 10. The ban is applicable all along Karnataka coast.

The order has made it clear that steps would be taken against those who undertake fishing in violation of the ban order. For any untoward incidents that might occur during such activities, the concerned will he held solely responsible, it has warned.

The fishermen who fail to comply with the order will run the risk of losing government facilities like sales-tax free diesel, central excise concession, subsidy and any other financial assistances, the order has clarified.

The ban applies to fishing activities being conducted through mechanized boats, trawlers and traditional boats powered by inboard or outboard engines or machines the capacity of which is over 10 HP.
