Mangalore, May 7: The inaugural of the World Environmental day celebration was held at Western Institute of Technology, Mangalore on June 5th, 09. Rev Father Micheal Santhumayor inaugurated the month long program at Western Institute of Technology and said that planting of trees, using plastic in a proper way, saving water is a public service and it is great in the eyes of the beholder. He praised the management, staff and students of Western Institute of Technology for taking this step of creating awareness among the public.

Keeping in mind the World Environment Day Western Institute of Technology is sponsoring and promoting various activities. Environment forms a very important part of the Health, Safety and Environment syllabus which is one of the major programs offered at Western Institute of Technology.

Millions of people around the world have united to combat climate change for world Environment Day 2009. This year’s theme is “Your planet needs you” and Western Institute of technology believes that it is every individual responsibility to protect the planet.


























World Environment day is truly a people’s day. It is a chance for everyone young and old, with their community or with close friends to show that they care for the planet. With this in mind Western Institute of Technology is having a month long program for its students.

Captain Ramprasad one of the guests at the occasion said Environment day should not be for one day, it should be celebrated every day. He stressed on pollution control and brought about awareness among the students of Western Institute of Technology. He also said that we should be aware of the climatic changes in the Environment and urged everybody to take a step to do something about the same.

Dr.Ramachandra Bhat the Guest faculty for first aid training at Western Institute of Technology said that Environment protects us and we have to protect the Environment.

Chief Guest and Resource Person of the Day Dr.N.A Madhyastha said that safeguarding Environment should be the priority of the young generation. He said good Environment if good business. In controversy to the theme of this year he said “it is not the Earth which needs us but we need the Earth”. He said that there is an intricate relationship between Earth and Human Beings. He also discussed the Environmental problems and stressed on the impact of Global Warming on the Environment.

The students of Western Institute of Technology will be participating in the Environmental workshop organized by Pilikula on 9th June 09 and will also engage themselves in slogan presentations and planting of saplings.

Western Institute of Technology will be conducting Slogan writing, Essay, and speech competitions within the premises on weekends to create awareness among students. We will also have Environmental experts who will be giving seminars on Industrial pollution and Bio-medical waste respectively.

Western Institute of Technology is proud to say that we are a corporate member of National Safety Council. In association with National safety council we are providing training on the following programs

a) Fire Prevention, fire fighting & emergency preparedness

b) Construction safety

c) Safety Management system in Petrochemical industries.

In addition to the above, Airport & Aeronautical safety and Marine safety, Health topics such as First aid, Alcohol and Tobacco, and Adolescence seminars will be organized as a part of the month long celebration at Western Institute of Technology.
