Bangalore, Jun 10: A 49-year-old patient from Netherlands, who showed symptoms of H1N1 flu and was quarantined at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Disease, has been discharged.

The institute's director Dr Shashidhar Buggi on Tuesday said the patient has been suffering from upper respiratory track infection. "He was discharged in the afternoon after reports from the National Institute of Virology tested negative."

He was the first foreign patient to be quarantined here on Monday. He had travelled through some of the affected countries and complained of soar throat. So far, 21 patients who were quarantined at the institute, have tested negative for H1N1 flu.

Director of family health and welfare services Dr Usha Vasunkar said district surveillance officers have been told to alert the health department if they come across patients with flu symptoms.

More than 1 lakh international passengers coming from affected countries have been screened at Bangalore and Mangalore airports.
