Mangalore: Man Mowed Down by Speeding Train

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 11: A man named Abdulla (35) lost his life after he was hit by a train coming to the city from the direction of Kasargod, at Thokkottu-Olapete in the outskirts of the city on the night of Wednesday June 10. The information on the accident and death of Abdulla, son of Mohammed from Ullal Kotepura, was conveyed to the Railway Police at around 9 pm. The body was handed over to the family at around 1 am on Thursday June 11.

The railway line here, near which several shops have been located, has become notorious for accidental deaths. As the area is dark, danger lurks for those who choose to cross the railway tracks in a hurry, particularly so as the trains coming from Kerala are not visible from this particular spot.

A pathway passes through the railway track here. After the Ullal municipality provided interlocks to the path, more and more people are using the road, paving way for more accidents. Accidents have become a regular feature here.

It may be recalled, that the people had earlier protested about the frequent deaths at the spot and had demanded for suitable alternative arrangements. They wanted at least a railway gate to be erected here. The railway personnel say, they have provided a railway over bridge for the use of the people who want to cross the railway track, but the people are not using it.  People, who want to rush to their homes or other places to save time and effort in choosing the over bridge route, fail to gauge that death waits for them at the tracks here.
