Mangalore, Jun 18: The members of the in city Bar Association staged a symbolic protest on Wednesday June 17 demanding the release of funds for the second phase of construction of the court complex which is still pending.

Addressing the protest at the court premises, S P Chengappa, president, Mangalore Bar Association, said that the government after releasing the funds for the first phase had shown negligence in releasing further funds.

“Work on the court complex work was started in 2006 with Rs 1.05 crore and in phase one, work on the ground floor has been completed but the electrical connection and works related to windows and doors is pending. The whole project should have been finished before January 2009, but is pending due to non-release of funds”, he said.

“The pending work is proving a hindrance to the court proceedings as everything is limited to a small space”, added Chengappa.

Demanding the immediate release of funds to complete the project, Chengappa said that the part of the court which is functioning from the city corporation building must be shifted to the new building, as the current arrangement is causing inconvenience to the advocates and the clients.
