Bangalore: HC Pulls up Policemen for Failure to Arrest M P Renukacharya

Bangalore, Jun 20: The state High Court on Friday June 19, took to task the policemen severely, for failing to arrest Honnali MLA from the BJP, M P Renukacharya, relating to a case of violating election code of conduct. It may be recalled, that a criminal case under section 125 of the Representation of the Peoples Act had been registered against Renukacharya, after he allegedly said in response to an anti-Hindu statement attributed to the Congress MLA Kagodu Timmappa that the heads of those who make anti-Hindu statements would be cut off. Kagodu Timmappa had later denied having made any anti-Hindu statements.

"Renukacharya is appearing before the media almost every day. Why have the police not been able to catch up with him? We have to consider this as dereliction of duty. If the policemen fail to arrest an accused in a criminal case even after over one and half months, we may have to hold the policemen responsible," the High Court warned.

A case was registered against Renukacharya for his alleged inflammatory statement to the media, at STJ police station in Davangere. The Davangere sessions court had refused to entertain Renukacharya's plea for anticipatory bail in the past.
