Mangalore: Theft at Kudupu Temple - Gold Ornaments Stolen

Mangalore, Jun 21: In an incident of theft that was held in the wee hours of Sunday June 21 in one of the well-known temple, Anantha Padmanabha temple in Kudupu here gold ornaments worth Rs 40,000 on the idol at the sanctum sanctorum was stolen.

The theft came to light when the temple was opened in the morning for its daily rituals. The thieves who entered the temple by removing the tiles of the roof got into the sanctum sanctorum. However, when the siren attached to the sanctum sanctorum went on the thieves decamped with whatever ornaments they could lay their hands on. But the theft came to light when the temple opened for its daily rituals.











  

Police confirmed that the theft occurred at about 2 am on Sunday and there was no one at the temple when the theft took place. One of the residents near the temple after the siren went on informed the temple staff suspecting a theft.

Police arrived at the spot. Dog squad and finger print experts were pressed into service. Mangalore Rural police station sub-inspector Prakash said that no clue about the thieves have been obtained so far. A case has been registered in this regard.
