Hassan: Youth taken into custody over alleged attempts to convert lover’s religion

Hassan, Aug 20: Police took into custody a young man on charges of forcing and harassing for alleged religious conversion the girl with whom he is said to be in love.

The incident took place in Channarayapatna, Hassan.

The man identified as 24-year-old Younis, is said to be in love with the girl and was allegedly forcing the girl to convert to his religion. The girl, who is a minor, was fed up of it. Some local organizations that came to know of the developments informed the police and rescued the girl.

As per the statement of the girl to the police, she is staying in the neighborhood of Younis and had come to know Younis one year ago. “We had exchanged gifts and visited several places together. He had sexually harassed me in those places but I had not informed about it to my house people. Younis had suggested me to flee, get married and convert to his religion. I did not consent to it. I informed my house people about whatever that had transpired including sexual harassment and plans to kidnap me,” informed the minor girl.

Police who took the complaint seriously, conducted investigations and arrested the accused within 24 hours. Cases under POCSO Act and religious conversion are slapped against him.
