Compulsory Retirement for Karkala Judge: 14 Others in State too Face Axe

Karkala, Jun 24: Through an order issued on Tuesday June 23, state governor Rameshwar Thakur has compulsorily retired additional chief judicial magistrate (CJM) (senior division) of the local court, Shivanand Narasingappa Dhage. A total of 15 judges from all over Karnataka have been given this punishment.

State High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran had earlier recommended to the governor, to compulsorily retire the above judges, who had been facing various charges including dereliction of duty. The High Court Review Committee had clarified that the judges who faced the axe, did not face any corruption charges. The main charge against most of them was inefficiency.

M Raju, judge of the Family Court Gulbarga, Shivaputrappa Yamanappa Kumbar, presiding  officer of the Labour Court Mysore, T Nagappa, presiding officer of the Fast Track Court-1, Karwar, C R Javid Pasha, presiding officer, Fast Track Court - 2, Belgaum, Chandrappa Nagappa Shivapooji, presiding officer, Fast Track Court, Hospet, Rudramuni Rudrappaiah, civil judge (senior grade), JMFC Nagamangala, Anwar Davalsab Ansari, civil judge (senior division), Basavana Bagewadi, Shivanand Narasingappa Dhage, civil judge (senior grade) and additioonal CJM, Karkala, Channal Bapuji Timmappa, civil judge (senior grade) and CJM Karwar, Srikant Shimpi, additional civil judge (senior grade) Karwar, Ullal Eshwar Balekundri (Third additional civil judge (senior division) Gulbarga, Mahantagouda Biradar, civil judge (senior division) and JMFC Virajpet, Vasant Hucchappa Mulasavalagi, second additional judge, court of small causes, Bangalore, Martand Parapa Tonne, civil judge (senior division) and CJM Koppal and Lakshmikant Ramappa Desai, civil judge (senior division), officer on duty, ex-officio deputy secretary, law department, Bangalore. were the judges who were compulsorily retired from service.

Sources said, that the collegium of the High Court judges and the committee of which the Chief Justice of the High Court was a member, had thoroughly gone through the records of the judges, before recommending this action. The collegium and the Chief Justice were firm about their recommendation for the  removal of these judges, as they did not find an improved performance even after the judges concerned  were given time to correct themselves. It is said, many of those facing the axe tried their best to save themselves, but succeeded only in getting the impending action postponed till now.

    This is an excellent decision doen by karnataka govt hatts off to them.The judge of karkala court was really slow & does not know the importance of time.One of my case is stuck with him from the past 2 Yrs & nothing he had done Hope the new judge will do something fast atleast
