Koppal, Sep 7: In an incident that shows inhuman side of certain people, the officials in charge of Gangavathi depot of North East Road Transport Corporation, kept under wraps the information that the daughter of one of the bus drivers had died, and deployed him on duty.

The daughter of the above driver had died of typhoid fever. The driver in question, Manjuath Bille, has been working in Gangavathi depot of the corporation since the last 22 years. He hails from Rampur village in Bagalkot district.

Manjunath's daughter, Kavitha (11), who was residing at her father's native place, Rampur, was suffering from typhoid fever since the last some days. Without responding to treatment, she breathed her last on Wednesday. The family members had immediately called Gangavathi bus depot and conveyed this sad news and requested Manjunath to be sent to Rampur immediately. But the controller of the depot failed to give this information to Manjunath, who was on duty at Hemavathi then. He informed Manjunath only after the driver reported back at Gangavathi on Thursday evening after duty.

The transport staff said that the officials are expected to inform the bus stands concerned over landline if the conductors and drivers did not have cellphones. Depot manager, S R Sonnad, who came to know about this incident, offered sympathies to Manjunath and sent him to Rampur in the company of a conductor.
