Bengaluru, Sep 9: Doubling work on Shimoga-Birur railway line is set to commence shortly.

This was decided at a meeting between Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi along with senior officials in Bengaluru on Monday.

Chief Secretary T M Vijayabhaskar, Infrastructure Development Department Principal Secretary Kapil Mohan, BMRCL Managing Director Ajay Seth and other senior officials from the State Government and Railways attended the meeting,

The meeting discussed various railway projects in the State including Bengaluru Suburban Railway and Bengaluru Metro Rail works as well as different projects pertaining to Shimoga district.

Other projects discussed at the meeting include:

• Grant of land for Shimoga outer ring road;
• Shimoga-Shikaripur-Ranebennur new rail line;
• Extension of Shimoga-Yeshwanthpur inter-city train till Chennai;
• Shimoga-Tirupati rail to ply on Birur-Chitradurua-Ballary routes;
• Change in timing of Simoga-YeshwanthpurShatabdi train.
• Shimga-Birur rail line doubling work to commence soon
