Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Sep 10: State minister for ports, fisheries and muzrai, Kota Srinivas Poojary, noted that currently there is stay against taking over administration of urban local bodies in the state by the elected representatives on the issue of reservation criteria. "Our government has been trying to get the stay vacated and there is hope that we will be able to get it done in about 15 days’ time," he explained.

He was speaking to media representatives here on Monday September 9. "Even though it has been an year since election was held to urban local bodies, the elected representatives are yet to get power to run the bodies. The problem arose because the previous government modified the reservation list it had published after the election result was announced. The court has stayed formation of councils in 18 local bodies in the state and is hearing the petitions now," he stated.

He said that the government had thought of the practicability of filing an affidavit in the court, seeking permission from the court to establish administrations in other bodies except the above 18 urban administrations mentioned above. "We are discussing this issue with legal experts, but there is technical hitch for this. Because there are chances of these administration systems undergoing changes once the verdict is announced," he pointed out.

On the demand for separate Puttur district, Poojary said that there are currently no proposals before the government for the formation of new districts. He however, promised to sincerely try to include Puttur if the government proposes to announce addition of new districts during the presentation of the next budget.

"We have given clear instructions to the police to undertake transparent investigation intoo the murder of Kartik Suvarna, a worker of Hindu Jagran Vedike. There will be no let-up in the investigation irrespective of the identity of the culprits and those who backed them. I and the local MLA will discuss this issue with the superintendent of police and inspector general of police. We are committed to hold transparent investigation," he explained.

MLA Sanjeev Matandoor, BJP leaders Chanila Thimmappa Shetty, Jeevandhar Jain, Radhakrishna Borkar and Gopalakrihna Herle were present.
