Bengaluru, Sep 11: Even as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) picked up momentum in its investigation into the sensational issue of phone tapping of political leaders in the state, it is said that over ten senior IPS officers have become jittery. Reportedly, the principal secretary of home department, two directors general of police, and additional director general of police are among those who are on a shaky wicket.

More than the problems arising out of the CBI investigation, the officers shudder over having to face hours of questioning, and to explain under what circumstances they circumvented procedures on the issue. The additional chief secretary of the government, who also is the principal secretary of home department, may have to shoulder the responsibility of the entire episode, it is said. Reportedly, the investigation also encompasses agencies which have the authority to tap the phones like Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), intelligence, internal security department, and criminal investigation department. CBI has already taken into possession several records and audio clips from these departments and these departments are expected to justify their actions.

It is said that ACB kept a watch on telephonic conversations of some people by relying on cases lodged with the department against them. Reportedly the principal secretary in home department signed the orders by relying on the trustworthiness of police officers and now the officer may be in a soup, it is said.
