Smuggling racket dealing with Antiques busted by cops

Mumbai, Sep 24: Earlier in the week, a smuggling racket of Antiques was busted by the Thane crime branch. The police have arrested three people and seized two antique statues of deities.

The police officers claimed they received a tip-off regarding the illegal purchase of the statues. The information received by the officers was about an SUV carrying the antiques. After successfully nabbing the perpetrators, the police retrieved 2 statues - Vishnu with 12 faces, weighing 8.7 kg and a Laxmi statue weighing 6.8 kg.

The accused, are small-time hoteliers who claimed to have found the statues when they demolished an old structure.

However, to know their true significance the police have sent the statues over to the Archaeological Survey of India.
