Mangaluru: World Alzheimer's Week begins with lecture on its awareness at KMC Hospital Attavar

Mangaluru, Sep 27: The department of Psychiatry, KMC Hospital, Attavar held the commemoration ceremony for the 'World Alzheimers Week 2019' on September 27 at Sushruta hall, 2nd floor, KMC Hospital, Attavar.

The welcome address was given by Dr Keshava Pai, professor and head, department of Psychiatry followed by the inaugural ceremony by the dignitaries.

The chief guest for the event was the dean of KMC Mangaluru, Dr M V Prabhu. In his inaugural address he discussed the latest research, recent development and scope in the field.

Dr Sheetal Raj, associate professor of the department of Medicine, KMC Hospital, Attavar delivered the keynote address, the importance of identification and management of Psychiatric symptoms in this population and about the functioning of the Geriatric clinic in KMC Attavara.

Dr Deepak Madi, associate professor of Medicine, deputy medical superintendent of KMC Hospital Attavar presided over the event and gave his presidential address and stressed on the preventive measures in Alzheimer’s, dementia. He also stressed the importance of sleep, exercise, new learning and yoga. A prize distribution ceremony was conducted for the poster presentation competition.

Vote of thanks was delivered by Gautham Krishnan, assistant professor, department of Psychiatry, organizing secretary of the event.

A guest lecture on the theme was delivered by Dr Anil Kakunje, professor and head, department of Psychiatry, Yenepoya Medical College, which was followed by an interactive session with the caregivers and the delegates. A cultural event based on the theme performed by MSc Psychology students was next to follow.

The valedictory address was given by Dr Sharanya Shetty, senior resident in the department of Psychiatry.
