Mumbai, Sep 28: The main runway of Mumbai’s international airport, 09/27, will be partially shut from November 1 to March 28, 2020 due to re-carpeting work of the main runway, said sources from the airport. The runway will be shut for flight operations from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm on all day’s except Sunday.

Passengers may have to face major peak-hour diversions, cancellations and disruptions to flight schedules at the country’s second busiest international airport. The main runway will be available for flights on special days such as December 25, January 1 and 15, February 19 and 21 and March 10 and 25, said an official.

However, the second runway will be active and all operations will be shifted to the secondary runway, which can handle at least 36 flights an hour, said an official from Mial. “We are trying to re-arrange the services as per the passenger’s convenience; we have also informed all airlines well in advance about the unavailability of the primary runway at the Mumbai airport,” the Mial spokesperson said.

The Mumbai international airport handles about 950 departures and arrivals in 24 hours.
