Bengaluru, Oct 3: Through an interim order, Karnataka high court, on Tuesday, October 1, exempted former chief minister of Karnataka, H D Kumaraswamy (HDK), from personal appearance in the special court for people's representatives for four weeks in connection with a denotification case. The case relates to alleged illegal denotification of 3 acres and 34 guntas of land in Halagavadera village in the city.

A single-judge bench of the high court presided over by Justice P G M Patil, which heard a criminal petition filed by H D Kumaraswamy seeking dismissal of summons issued against him to attend the hearing in the court, passed this order.

Before that, senior advocate, Hazmat Pasha, who appeared on behalf of Kumaraswamy, prayed to grant stay against the hearing in the special court.

The bench disagreed with the plea to uphold the prayer. However, it said that the only concession it can extend is to exempt him from personal appearance in the court. It said that if the petitioner wants regular stay, he will have to move an application before the regular bench of the high court after the vacation.

After exempting Kumaraswamy from personal appearance in the case for four weeks, the bench adjourned hearing in the case to October 14.
