Mangalore, Jul 24: Convener of Mangalore Railway Development Action Committee, P V Mohan, informed at a press conference organized here on Thursday July 23, that the committee had held detailed discussions with union minister of state for railways K H Muniyappa and former labour minister Oscar Fernandes, on the demand of the people to cancel the proposal to extend Bangalore-Mangalore train to Kannur and to start train services from Kundapur to Bangalore.

"At the end of deliberations that went on for three consecutive days, the leaders promised to start day-train services to Bangalore before August 15. The other minister of state for railways, E Ahamed, has promised to convene a meeting of the railway officials to discuss the possibility of running the day-train between Kundapur and Bangalore in a way that is not detrimental to the interests of the coastal people," informed joint convener of the committee, Moidin Bawa.

The committee office bearers said that they will extend wholehearted support to the fight the coastal people will undertake against the injustice being meted out to the people of the state by the railway ministry, on July 25.

Committee's general secretar Dennis D'Silva was present.

In the meanwhile, Puttur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has taken up a signature campaign against the proposed extension of Bangalore-Mangalore express train to Kannur. General secretary of the organisation, Rajesh Kamath, said that the passengers of the district will suffer if the extension is given effect to.
