Mangalore, Jul 25: Sri Rama Sene has asked the state government to ban cow slaughter with immediate effect. It wants the ban to come into force, before the present session of the assembly ends. The Sene plans to hand over memorandums spelling out this demand, to the deputy commissioners of all the districts in the state.

Speaking to the media men on Friday July 24, state convener of the Sene, Arun Puttila, pointed out that the Sangh Parivar outfits have been demanding the ban on cow slaughter since the last seven decades and that Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are the only two states where cow slaughter has been prohibited.  He said, the Sene does not think enforcing the ban on cow slaughter in the state would pose any problems, as the BJP is in power. He felt, the opposition parties will not object to the law as even Mahatma Gandhi had held himself in favour of such an action. He requested the Congress Party to support the proposal to ban cow slaughter.

When media men pointed out that the Sene, which wants to put an end to cow slaughter, has not provided any facilities for looking after abandoned and old cows, Puttila felt it is the duty of the government to provide such a facility. "If the government expresses its inability to open Goshalas for cows, when we will do it," he announced.
