Udupi: MP Shobha Karandlaje puts steps for Dandiya dance

Udupi, Oct 6: Ganeshotsava Samiti of Kadiyali near here had organized Dandiya dance in the campus of Kamalabai High school of Kadiyali on Saturday, October 5. All women in and around the city of Udupi cutting across religious and party lines took part in the celebration.

MP Shobha Karandlaje inaugurated the programme and also took part in the Dandiya dance. The programme was presided over by Shanta V Acharya. Shruthi G Shenoy, president of Power organization was the chief guest.

MLA K Raghupati Bhat, president of Samiti, P Vasant Bhat, chief secretary Raghavendra Kini, office bearers of Mahila Mandali Veda V Bhat, Sandhya Prabhu, Bharati Chandrashekhar, eminent personalities like Uday Kumar Shetty and Yashpal Suvarna were present.

Ashita Rao welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Dr Swati Shet. Sushmita Sherigar rendered the vote of thanks. The dance continued till 10.30 pm.

Dandiya dance is popular in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan and is held mainly during Navaratri celebrations. This is organized in Udupi for three years. Earlier, it was being held at the Kunjibettu grounds. This year, for the first time, it was organized at Kadiyali. This allowed many people to participate in the dance.
