Mangalore, Jul 30: Through an order, district superintendent of police (SP) Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, has barred the use of D J Sets and high-powered microphones, besides banning the practice of forcible collection of donations from the general public during the ensuring festivals like 'Mosaru Kudike', Vinayaka Chaturthi etc.

Convener of the local Consumers Forum, Raghavendra Pai, had written to the superintendent of police earlier, drawing his attention to the harassment caused by the DJ sets to the general public and asked him for banning their use. Information about the route though which the procession proceeds, should be  provided to the police stations in advance, he has prescribed. He has also warned the people not to use microphones after 10 pm and not to wear costumes or make up that might hurt the sentiments of the people following different faiths and religions.

Good work done by the Consumers Forum. Mangalore public is tortured in several ways, Corporators are not bothered. The need of the hour is to establish strong, non-political Citizen''s Forum or Consumers Forum so that problems could be effectively addressed/solved.

Really appreciate this new initiative by the SP. By making all prior arrangements and requiring the organizers to gather approval in advance of hosting the gathering would avoid any unnecessary confusion and uphold the festive spirit!! Happy Mosaru Kudike to all my brothers and sisters in India!!!
