Bellary: New KMF Chairman Proposes to Reduce Milk Prices

Daijiworld Media Network - Bellary (SP)

Bellary, July 31: In a surprise move, newly elected chairman of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) and MLA Somashekhara Reddy said, the Federation was considering a proposal to reduce the milk prices. His move comes as a surprise, in view of the fact that milk prices are considerably higher, as compared to Karnataka, in the neighbouring states and also that the past chairman of KMF H D Revanna had been vehemently seeking the nod of the government to hike prices of milk by two rupees a litre, saying that the milk producers unions were running under loss.

During his brief to the newsmen after arriving in the town for the first time after being elected as the KMF chairman, Reddy said, he wants to reduce the milk prices so that milk is made affordable even to common people. "Chief Minister Yeddyurappa has asked me to consider reducing the milk prices. I will hold a round of discussions with him and try to effect reduction in way that does not burden either the milk producers or others," he explained. He also expressed the confidence that he would lead Karnataka Milk Federation through a path of huge expansion, so that the KMF becomes as vibrant and its milk production will be as huge as its Gujarat counterpart which produced 60 lac litres of milk per day more than KMF.

He negated the rumours had predicted that he would continue as the KMF chairman only for a few months, by stressing that he will continue for full term. He added, that the state BJP president D V Sadanand Gowda, who has been appointed as the director of KMF, will guide him during his tenure.

Terming past chairman of KMF Revanna as 'Ravana', he stated that during the period Revanna headed the Federation, the Federation was full of  malpractices and wrongs.  He promised to clean up the KMF administration and work for its development.

This is not enough, govt.and KMF should support milk producers and hence provide employment to many. The milk production can be done by less literate and illiterate people also.
