Bangalore, Aug 2: In all 71 contestants are in fray for the assembly bypoll scheduled to be held in five constituencies on August 18. A total of 25 persons have withdrawn their nominations filed on Saturday August 1, the last day for the withdrawal of nominations.

Nine candidates from Chittapur, 27 from Govindarajanagar, 13 from Ramnagar, 10 from  Chennapatna and 12 from Kollegal are finally contesting the bypolls. As 27 candidates are contesting from Govindarajanagar every polling booth will consist of 2 polling machines for in a polling machine only names 16 candidates can be accommodated.

In all 108 members had filed nominations out of which 12 were rejected by the returning officers while filing nominations and thus 96 nominations were found to be in order. The split up figures of rejected nominations are one each from Kollegal, Chittapur and Channapatna while two nominations from Ramnagar and seven from Govindarajanagar were rejected.
