Bantwal: Farmer’s association welcomes refusal of centre to sign RCEP agreement – Nagendra

Bantwal, Nov 5: “Karnataka state Raita Sangha and Hasiru Sene welcomes the backtrack by the union government from signing RCEP agreement. But the government should be bound to the stand without bowing to any pressure,” said Karnataka state Raita Sangha and Hasiru Sene state president Badagalapura Nagendra.

Welcoming the stand of the union government in a programme held in front of Bantwal Mini Vidhan Saudha he said that it is a victory for the farmers' movement.

“There is anxiety that the Government of India may sign the modified draft. The Prime Minister should stay put to the stand without signing for any reason,” he urged.

Campaigner Swarnalatha Bhat, said that such international agreements are disastrous for the welfare of farmers. “It is a huge beating for the farmers of Dakshina Kannada district,” she said.

Karnataka state Raita Sangha vice-president, G T Ramaswamy, M Ramu Chennapattana and state leader, Lokesh Raje Urs spoke. State secretary, Ravikiran Punacha in his introductory address said that farmers are suffering adverse effects of Gat agreement and if RCEP agreement is implemented now, farmers in the coast will have to bite the dust.

Theertharama Sullia, Raghu Hirisave, Hosur Kumar, Janet Prakash Fernandes, Prasad Shetty Peraje, Srinivas Nidinji, Diwaker Pai Majigundi and others were present. A memorandum was submitted to the center through the tahsildar later.
