Udupi, Nov 22: There are shanties by the national highway near here, which are in danger. More than 20 children of school-going age are living in this make-shift tents. They are all child labourers. For them open ground itself is the toilet. District administration is not bothered about them. It is the responsibility of the concerned government officials to rehabilitate these people.

These people are living near Sharada Hotel which is by the side of national highway 66. All these families have come from outstation states. There are more than 30 children in the six families that are living in pathetic conditions here. These children play on the national highway also without knowing the danger it poses. In addition, the shanties put up by this nomads is so close to the national highway that there is the danger of vehicles running over them, in case of losing control.

These people defecate in open ground, which may cause epidemic shortly. It is learnt that these people belong to Jaipur district of Rajasthan state. The children who are supposed to go to school are helping their parents in the manufacture of musical instruments. In addition, they also sell the products to the customers.

The district administration has to act fast to prevent these people from spreading epidemic as well as becoming victims of any highway accident.
