Mangalore, Aug 24: The old documents stored in the records room at the deputy commissioner’s office premises will be catalogued and indexed after nearly 15 years. V Ponnuraj, deputy commissioner, said that this process comes ahead of the computerization of the records.

Ponnuraj, speaking in a press meet, said, “We have plans to computerize the records. For this we need funds, so we are first processing the records to keep them in order. It might take a year to complete this process”.

“Village accountants and staff from the taluk office are involved in the process of cataloguing and indexing. We regret the inconvenience it may cause to people visiting these offices”, he said adding that this process would be on for two days the first time and after fifteen days the same process will start again.

“The records room contains documents related to the taluk office, assistant commissioner’s office, and deputy commissioner’s office”, he said.

Answering a query, Ponnuraj said that the instances of missing documents will come to light during this process. He also added that it would be difficult to restore these. 

“We have written to the government for finances and also for assistance in computerization of the documents by scanning them and storing these on computers”, he explained.

Additional deputy commissioner Prabhakar Sharma was also present.
