Mangalore: Day-train to Bangalore to become Reality from August 29

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 25: One of the long-cherished dreams of the citizens of the district will be realized on August 29, when the day-train services between the city and Bangalore will be flagged off from the local railway station by union minister of state for railways, K H Muniyappa, at 8.45 am.  However, the expectant railway passengers have a small disappointment too, as the train would be run thrice a week instead of the daily services demanded by them and it will start from here and Yashwantpur station in Bangalore, on alternative mornings.

A small inaugural function will be arranged in the Central railway station here at 8.45 am on August 29. The train, which will leave from here at 9 am, will reach its destination, Yeshwantpur, at 7.30 pm, said Mangalore Railway Development Action Committee convener P V Mohan.

It is learnt, that the department of railways faces shortage of rakes for running the train on a daily basis. As it could get only 16 spare rakes so far, it has not been able to run the train on a daily basis. At the same time, Hassan-Mangalore Railway Development Company has raised objections for the running of passenger trains on this route, as it fears that it would lose revenue in the form of a cut in the number of goods trains that can be run on this route. The railway department has therefore, found a via media for the present, by running the train on alternative days, it is gathered.

There has been a demand to extend this train up to Kundapur. Ralways might consider this demand in course of time. At the same time, the department is not prepared to yield to the pressure brought on it by the people and the political personalities, to cancel the proposed extension of the night train from Bangalore up to Kannur. Most probably, the extension will come into effect from October this year, and the train will run as an express train instead of converting it into local between the city and Kannur, it is learnt.

It is analyzed, the central government feels that cancellation of the extension of this train will have adverse effect on the prospects of the Congress Party in the assembly elections scheduled in Kerala, in about two years time from now.

After a goods train got derailed between Yedakumeri and Donigal stations on the Western Ghats on the Bangalore route on Saturday night, the passenger train to Bangalore had been cancelled. The train service was resumed on Monday night.

At long last now the passengers travelling by this "day-train" can enjoy the natural beauty of the Western Ghats and at the same appreciate the efforts put in by the Railway Engineers in setting up this route through hazardous ghats. Certainly one must thank & appreciate the "Tireless Efforts" put forwarded by the local administration, people as well as the political heavey weights (Let''s not forget them!). Let us also not "Criticize" the Indian Railways. We expect everything to happen overnight as per our wishes and convenience. I hope in the near future, the concerned Railway Authorities must understand the need of the local people and the same train can be extended up to Karwar! or even up to Madgaon!.

Mr Charles Dmello Pangala, Pls be happy that you now have another option of travelling to Bangalore. It is not just this route for that matter you see any route you travel in India the train route is always longer than the bus route.

The train journey for that matter has its own clientle in terms of cost, luggage, safety, relaxing, sight seeing. The people who prefer bus to train can travel by bus. No one will stop them. As for my opinion this day train will be a super hit and care need to be taken to see that the Bus mafia dont play dirty to stop this train from running.

Good to hear for mangaloreoans. Thanks to all Railway authority. My Request 1) the train distance and duration should be less then bus journey and make it daily train. Then only it would be more useful to common man. Dear politician please don''t accept bus mafia''s demand and consider necessity of common man''s dream. thanks - Jai karnakata, onde matharam.

Good News only for Mangalore. What about people of Udupi and North Kanara ? I hope the Train should be extended upto Karwar then only the people of the whole Karnataka will benefit. I think once again we have to fight with the Railways to extended the train up to Karwar/Goa.

A good facility indeed for the travellers between both the cities. The efforts by those involved is praiseworthy.A pantry car is essential and should be provisioned from the first day itself.

Can we get the details of objections raised by Hassan Mangalore Railway Development Corporation, for the running of day time train ? Even under the agreement which they have signed with Railways there are several obligations which they are bound to honour . Will H M R D C make it public on what specific grounds they object to running of day time train daily?

Friend Charles for everything you should not blame others. The train is going via Mysore because the direct route via Arsikere is not yet completed. You must feel happy for new good thing. When something positive happens you must compliment people who are responsible for it rather than finding fault at them.

This link will really boost the economies of both the cities. If this link could go all the way upto Karwar it would be great for this region. The rail links between Bangalore and the other states are more well established than the links within its own cities. Trains could help boost the intercity trade and really help the economies especially interior areas like coorg, shimoga etc which need access to the coast and the mangalore port.

The ideal Junction to start would be Barkur in Udupi there is lot of Land to have a full fledged railway station but politicians will not see the economic good the same way as the natural harbour malpe is wasted and mangalore where dredging is required for 365 days has been developed.
