Daijiworld Media Network - SP

Mangalore, Aug 28 (The Hindu): 28: The day-train from the city to Bangalore will start running from Saturday August 29. The train will start from Mangalore on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Yeshwantpur, Bangalore. As the train will move via Arasikere, it will save 50 kms in terms of distance and as such, will take about one and half hours less than the normal running time of 12 hours.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that he is happy about the fructification of the efforts made by the people of the region, towards making the day-train on this route, a reality. At the same time, he asserted that he would continue to fight for running of this train on a daily basis, with the support of his party leaders and MPs. He also vehemently opposed the decision of the railways to extend the night train from Bangalore to the city, up to Kannur. He demanded that the train be extended to Karwar instead of Kannur.

Kanara Chamber of Commerce and industry welcomed the initiation of the day-train to Bangalore. Its treasurer, M Ahmed Bava described this to be the result of united action undertaken in this regard, with the support of everyone. District Congress vice president Ivan D'Souza said, the dream of the day-train was realized with the efforts of the union railway minister, minister M Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes and B Janardhan Poojary.

In the meantime, there has been a good demand for the tickets for the day-train and the sources in the railway station said, they might be able to start making reservations by afternoon on Frioday August 28, after they instructions to this effect. Train No. 6516 will leave the city Central railway station at 8.40 am to move via Puttur, Sakleshpur, Hassan, Arsikere , Tiptur and Tumkur. Train No. 6515 will be leaving Yeshwantput at 7.30 am. The train will have 12 coaches, including two general unreserved, nine reserved (sitting) and one three-tier air-conditioned compartment, it is learnt.

Happy news but it is still not convenient to travel by train for majority of the twin district passangers. Some drastic steps need to be taken to popularise and reduce the dependancy on private bus and their lobby.

In the past, I have been travelling regularly from Mangalore to Bangalore and return by private buses which mostly ply during night hours and in the process I used to miss a lot of lovely sights and sceneries on the way. Now that the day time trains have commenced, I look forward to use them and relax and enjoy some of the natural beauty, the State of Karnataka has to offer, specially around Puttur, Sullya, Mudikeri and Ghat section.

Some Good news YES..Finally general passengers are getting some weightage..It is still shocking that only one day train (that too alternate day) and one night train has been allocated..I request Railways to provide more passenger trains on this route..Making money via goods trains should not be the only motive.. Anyways I wish thousands of the passengers of the much awaited day train a happy journey always..A chance to get close with Mother nature makes this journey more beckoning ! Thanks to all who put the efforts to make this possible !
