Mangalore: Literary Knowledge Capable of Winning the World

Mangalore, Aug 31: One can win the world with literary knowledge. Along with academics, knowledge of literature too plays an important role in life, said State Kannada Sahitya Parishad former president Harikrisna Punaroor.

He was speaking at the 16th Makkala Dhwani programme organized at Durga Sabha Bhavan of Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple Pre-University College in association with Dakshina Kannada District Makkala Sahitya Sangama on Saturday August 29. Mythological and grandma’s stories are the basic literatures that introduce children to the literary world. The elders should instill in children the love for literature, he said.



The programme was inaugurated by Kateel Temple priestVasudev Asranna. Mannabettu Gram Panchayat president Govind Poojary signaled the start of attractive procession of children’s mela. Divya Adiga, student of Vivek Pre-University College, Kota, Kundapur presided.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that it is vital to encourage children to learn literary work in their mother tongue. Learning English though essential is not a panacea for all the proble, she said. She called on people not to commercialize literature. It is only when everyone is proud of Kannada language that the language will survive, she said.

Kattel PU College Principal Balakrishna Shetty said that literary activity does not need great knowledge, but a little curiosity and imagination.

Kannada Makkala Khantabharana, anthology by Indira Halambi and Dodda Jinke, collection of short stories were released on the occasion.
