Mangalore, Sep 3: Whether the rain comes down in the form of drops, trickle, drizzle or downpour, it always is packed with surprises. The rain might come when you least expect it to, and might stop suddenly, when you think that it will continue for a few hours and make you forget the umbrella while coming back from shopping. If you feel that you can manage things without an umbrella or rain coat, just because you are seeing only tiny drops since a couple of hours, it might just turn into heavy rain any minute, making you feel that the only purpose the rain serves, is proving you wrong!

Several auspicious occasions have been lined up since the last several days, and almost everyone had to contend with the rain which comes at odd hours. Since the last several days, the city has been receiving an average of four to six cms of rain daily. The people thought that after August 15, they need not be bothered about the rain, while driving through the pot-holed roads. The rain proved them wrong again! The festival season, consumer fairs, processions, protests etc., scheduled during the month always have a danger waiting from them from behind the scenes, in the form of rain.

While the rain might have taken some sheen off the celebrations, it has definitely not dampened the spirits of the people here. They know, rains are welcome to relieve them from the scorching heat, to sustain water supply system of the city during the summer months and to improve the greenery, even though the rains also blacken the painted outer walls, cause the drains to clog, make some to suffer from cold and fever, besides damaging asphalted roads.

The people are thankful, that winds have not been accompanying the rains now and as such, their delicate umbrellas have been able to protect them from getting wet.
