Udupi, Sep 5:
Scott Woodard, economic/political officer at the US Consulate in Chennai, visited Manipal University (MU) here on Thursday September 3 and interacted with the head of the institutions of MU on the theme ‘Probable Educational and Cultural Exchanges between MU and the Universities in US’.

It was opined that MU, being a truly multi-disciplinary university, has the potential to contribute to the growth of knowledge in almost all the disciplines from medical sciences to engineering sciences to media education and geopolitics and international relations.

Woodard felt the need to enhance educational and cultural exchanges. It was acknowledged that there is a need for the US students to visit the universities in India for learning many specialized subjects.

While addressing the students on ‘Current State of Indo-US Relations: Challenges for Co-operation and Engagement’,  he sounded optimistic and highlighted that the current bonhomie and the positive atmosphere created in Indo-US relations are the manifestations of the keen commitment both nations have in the current context.

“The transformation in Indo-US relations has been a significant development in recent years. Both the nations require coming out of the old cold war mindsets and seeing how best they can realize and exploit their potential for mutual benefit and co-operation. The international system has changed and there is now a greater realization that both the countries need each other because of a number of similar concerns including fighting with the non-state actors and countering terrorism. The momentum built so far requires to be continued with a determined effort to finally boost Indo-US ties”, added Woodard.

MU chancellor Dr Ramdas Pai chaired the session. Geopolitics professor Dr M D Nalapat made opening remarks and professor Dr Arvind Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
