Puttur, Sep 5: A gang of eight people that visited a jewellery shop in the town on the evening of Thursday September 3, succeeded in diverting the attention of the staff and taking away gold ornaments worth about Rs 80,000.

The theft reportedly happened in Sharada Jewellery, located in Court Road here and owned by Gopalakrishna Bhat. The theft has been captured by the closed circuit cameras fitted in the shop.

Reportedly, the gang came to the shop, duly splitting themselves into two teams. While acting as if they were verifying different ornaments, they took away a tray containing ear rings weighing about 50 grams, the shopkeepers said. The thieves took advantage of the fact that only Sharada, wife of the shop's owner and a salesman were present during their visit.
