Bangalore, Sep 13 (DHNS): Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday saw a conspiracy behind the repeated law and order problems, including the church attack at Hebbagodi, which he claimed was aimed at toppling his government.
After holding a meeting on the law and order situation with Home Minister V S Acharya and top police officials, the chief minister told reporters that a conspiracy was being hatched to pull down his government like the way it was done to Veerendra Patil in the past.
“Miscreants are creating unnecessary confusion in the State of late. The recent incident of attack on a church and violent protests in Belgaum and Shimoga give room for apprehension that all these are being done to destabilise the government,” he added.
He said the Opposition parties had held press conferences on the church attack even before a police case was registered. Despite the government ordering a CoD probe, the JD(S) State president H D Kumaraswamy met the governor and lodged a complaint. Kumaraswamy also demanded that the governor send a report to the Centre. “These developments clearly indicate that both the Congress and the JD(S) are up to something... And all such incidents are happening when the Legislature session is on,” he stated. Speaking to Deccan Herald, Yeddyurappa said the sequence of events in the recent weeks gave an impression that a conspiracy had been hatched by the Opposition against his government.
“First it was Deve Gowda who requested the governor to send a report to the Centre saying the law and order situation is not proper. Later, the governor makes a statement on the law and order situation. When the session is on, the church is attacked. Kumaraswamy meets the governor and pressurises him to send a report to the Centre. What do all these indicate?,” he asked.
The chief minister said when the church was attacked in the night, the security guards did not raise an alarm till next morning. “This is really strange. It is obvious that some forces are behind the attack. I have told my officers to give a fitting reply to those who are creating problems for no reason. The truth should come out.”
He said so far the police had no clue as to who had vandalised the church. Asked whether he too was facing problems from his own party leaders as he had likened himself to Veerendra Patil, Yeddyurappa said: “Definitely not. When Patil was chief minister, he too faced law and order problems. In that context I made a comparison”.
He, however, said: “A direction has been issued to the IGP to submit a report on the incident (church attack) by Monday.”
