Mangalore: Bus Hits Electric Pole - One Killed, Two Injured

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 15: As a bus moving to Moodbidri from the city swerved dangerously to its extreme left, to make way for another bus coming from the opposite direction, it brushed against an electric pole opposite Mijar Gopalakrishna temple, on Monday September 14. Out of the three passengers who were travelling on the front footboard of the bus, one was killed, while the other two were injured in the accident.

Jagadish (23), the ill-fated passenger on the footboard, suffered critical injuries to his head and was then tossed out of the bus in the accident.  He died later in a hospital. Two other passengers, Kiran (20) and Ranjan (20), too sustained severe injuries to heads and faces, and both of them were admitted into a hospital in the city.

Jagadish was the son of Lingappa Saphaliga living near Garody of Yedapadav. He was undergoing ITI computer course at Moodbidri and was a regular commuter of this bus. Kiran is a degree student of Moodbidri Alva's College, while Ranjan, son of Sadanand from near Yedapadav Garody, is an engineering student at Manipal Institute of Engineering, Manipal.

The people of the area have opined that various bends and narrow stretches of the road at places like Mijar Badaga, Yedapadav etc.,  on national highway 13 have been causing many accidents and that the national highway authority, to which various representations were made earlier in this regard, has failed to do anything to consider them.
