BEST bus driver suffers heart attack, pedestrian comes to rescue

Mumbai, Jan 14: A BEST bus driver was given a second chance at life when he was saved by a passenger after he suffered a heart attack on Monday.

Officials said the bus was plying on route 100, from Free Press Journal Marg to Churchgate station. The bus had picked up passengers near FPJ office and had barely reached Mantralay around 10 am when the driver suffered pain in the chest.

As per the onlookers around, the driver identified as Nathuran Shinde (57) jumped out of the bus after he could not control the pain any longer.

Shinde approached a pedestrian Sandeep Bhatne and stated that he was suffering a heart attack, Bhatne realising the gravity of the situation immediately called 108 emergency number. The ambulance service rushed Shinde to the hospital.

BEST spokesperson Manoj Varade assured that the driver was out of danger and was recuperating.

BEST officials lauded the efforts of the pedestrian who had come to the rescue of the driver on a day when the state was observing Road Safety Week and state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray was felicitating some Good Samaritans at NCPA in Nariman Point.
