Karkala, Oct 13: "Everyone in the country enjoys the right to financial and social equality. Everyone need to get educated and become self reliant. Towards this end, and to ensure that people have access to safe food, we plan to enact the Equal Opportunities Act and Food Security Act. In the next five years, all out efforts would be made to ensure that even the last person of the country gets justice," said union law and justice minister, Dr M Veerappa Moily on Monday October 12.

He was addressing a convention of the Congress Party workers convened by the Block Congress Committee, on the first visit of Moily to his home constituency after becoming a union minister.

"In achieving development, caste of a person does not matter. The individual is most important. None of the citizens should suffer from a sense of helplessness. We can achieve what we want when we doggedly pursue our goals. There are lot of opportunities in the country, but people need to be educated to encash these opportunities.  A scheme is in the pipeline that provides education along with employment. The youths should make use of this scheme, bring out their hidden talents and contribute to the nation's development," he explained.

Moily said that the love and affection of the people from the taluk has enabled him to rise to this level. He wanted to put his electoral defeats behind him, analyzing that they were driven by some incidents that occurred then, and that he could win from Chikballapur constituency, as the party workers there worked with mutual trust and unity. He stressed that only his party can provide financial security to the people of Karnataka. He said he would ensure that the 'Paschima Vahini' scheme aimed at irrigating the fields of the coast and providing drinking water to the people, will be implemented and the highways that are in bad condition at the time, will be repaired at the earliest. "Even though I represent Chikballapur, I will continue to love my past constituency, Karkala," he added.

Apex Bank chairman M N Rajendra Kumar said that he could help three lac families through Navodaya self help groups, because of the encouragement and support extended by Moily. MLA H Gopal Bhandary said that a grand reception to Moily, who started his political career from here, had been planned, but because of the flood situation in North Karnataka, a decision was taken to tone down the celebration. The amount so saved will be contributed to the Flood Relief Fund, he explained.

Udupi district Congress president M A Gafoor presided. Malati V Moily, Bharat Beedies chairman Ganapati Pai, party leaders Pratapchandra Shetty, B L Shankar, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Jayaprakash Hegde, Abhaychandra Jain, Vasant Salian, and several other leaders were present at the dais.
