Mangalore, Oct 22: Since the last two days, unprecedented vigil and patrolling by the security agencies on the highways and hinterlands, particularly on the roads leading to the seashore, have taken the people of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts by surprise. In addition to the civilian police, Coastal Security Force, district armed reserve police etc., have been deployed in ample measure, to keep an eye on the movements of people and vehicles at these places.

Even the two wheelers were not spared from the police checking. The people travelling in vehicles were questioned about their names, native place, records etc., making the people to worry that something untoward was going to happen. There has been tight security in and around important places and monuments too.

The security agencies are tightlipped, other than just informing that the vigil is being kept as per the instructions of the central intelligence agencies. There are also doubts that the departments are conducting some kind of a mock drill to check the efficacy of the policemen in apprehending the people who hide their identities, by deliberately sending a few personnel of the agencies in the guise of common men.

The policemen did not come up with any satisfactory answers to queries, other than claiming that they are not authorized to say anything. The reason for the vigil may however, may be revealed by the evening of Thursday October 22, as it is gathered, that the operation will continue till today evening.

Vigil should be 24 x 7, 365 days a year. Its not the people who are surprised. People in fact want security measures in place. Media should endeavor to report successes, failures or pitfalls in investigation. Such items only add to crap news. No comments from readers to this article is a measure of its unpopularity. tryingai
