Udupi: 'Swadesh' Group of Hotels Founder Raghuram Shetty No More

Udupi, Oct 23:  Kadekar Sannamane Raghuram Shetty (76), founder of 'Swadesh' group of hotels operating in Mumbai, Mangalore and the city, breathed his last at his home at Andheri, Mumbai, on Wednesday October 21. He is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters.

Shetty had left home when he was very young and came up in life through hard work and determination, after initially working on small jobs. He had established two hotels at Andheri, Mumbai, one at Mangalore and 'Swadesh Heritage' restaurant-cum-lodge in Udupi. His two hotels in Mumbai are being run by his sons, Rajan Shetty and Dayanand Shetty. The hotels in Mangalore and the city are being managed by his son-in-law, Nagesh Hegde. His other son-in-law is a computer engineer settled in Mumbai.

Raghuram Shetty was very much influenced by the ideals of Mahatama Gandhi and had accordingly, named his hotels as 'Swadesh'. He was a noted philanthropist and had donated liberally to several temples, Daivastanas and schools.
