National Lok Adalat settles 3,171 cases for Rs 142.8 crore

Mumbai, Feb 12: In the National Lok Adalat held on February 9 a settlement of over Rs 142.8 crore was done after 3,171 cases were resolved. Held at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Esplanade court in Mumbai, the cases settled included criminal compounding cases, cases under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
 
There were other cases which were included in the list mainly, Money recovery cases, labour disputes, land acquisition, matters relating to pay, allowance and retiral benefits and other civil cases.
 
 
Every six months Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority of Bombay HC holds Lok Adalats to settle the pending cases. Once the ruling on the cases is carried out, the court decision remains the final and binding.
