Mangaluru, Mar 21: Although the deputy commissioner has issued order suspending certain services in government offices till March 31, many who did not have knowledge of it came to government offices on Friday. They had to return empty-handed.

People came to the office of the deputy commissioner, zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat, mini Vidhana Soudha, RTO etc.

RTO offices here and also at Puttur and Bantwal have cut short their work to avoid overcrowding. Issuance of learning licence has been stopped. Candidates whose licences have validity till April 15 can alone appear for practical. Candidates are restrained from attending examinations for learning licence and permanent driving licence from March 20 onward. The restriction does not apply to renewal of vehicle driving licence, a release from the office of the regional transport office said.

In the meanwhile, many banks have planned to reduce their staff strength to maintain safe distance by staggering their work hours, it is said.
