Mangaluru, Mar 25: Padma Shenoy (87), veteran litterateur, passed away at a private hospital here on Tuesday, March 24.

Padma Shenoy was the wife of the late Mohan Shenoy, owner of Westcoast Stationaries and Publishers here, and a staunch Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader. She is survived by Dr R M Shenoy, orthopaedic surgeon here, and Dr Surendra Shenoy, serving as a surgeon in the USA.

Padma had served Syndicate Bank Udupi for a few years before her marriage. After her marriage, she settled down in the city. She authored 11 novels, four collections of short stories, three long stories, four children's literature, a biography, a travelogue, three spiritual literature, and a Konkani literary work. She also released a CD of philosophical songs. Her first-ever novel,' Rasa - Virasa' published in 1963, had bagged the first prize of the then Mysore government. She bagged many awards and honours for her achievements in the field of literature.

Since some time, she was leading a contented life at the home for senior citizens near Gurpur. Her mortal remains have been donated to KMC Hospital as per her wish.
