Kundapur, Mar 28: On Friday March 27, Udupi district police manning the check post at the district border at Hosangady in the taluk refused permission to two men and other family members to proceed to their home town in Udupi district for participating in their father's funeral.

Narayana Poojary from Saligrama in Udupi taluk had breathed his last on Thursday night. His two sons, working in Hassan, started journey by a rented vehicle to Saligrama via Shivamogga. At Hosangady check post, they were stopped and the policemen of Amasebail station on duty there said they had orders from higher officials not to allow any vehicles to enter the district. Even senior officials said they have been strictly told not to allow movement of vehicles.

The people who had reached the check post at 10 am waited there till 2.30 pm. Thereafter, the police helped them by hiring a rented vehicle from Udupi to enable them to reach home. Here too, many taxi drivers refused to carry the family, fearing police action. Finally, after minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and police intervened, a driver agreed to ferry the family members in his car.

The police showed their humanitarian side by providing tea, biscuits and lunch to the family members at the check post in spite of lockdown in force.
