Kundapur, Dec 6: District health officer, Ramachandra Bairy, has confirmed that H1N1 infection has been detected among two students of Kodery Higher Primary School in Kirimanjeshwar village in the taluk.

After the teachers of the said school drew the attention of the doctors in Kirimanjeshwar primary health centre, that several of its students have been suffering from fever, the doctors visited the school and examined nearly 40 students, who exhibited the symptoms of fever. Out of blood samples collected from three students who were found to be suffering from acute fever, the presence of H1N1 virus was found in two, Bairy explained.

After Dr Bairy and primary health officer, Dr Rohini, visited the school and examined the students, an emergency meeting of the parents of the students was convened in the school premises. MLA, K Lakshminarayan, zilla panchayat members, taluk panchayat members and other peoples’ representatives took part in the meeting. The parents were asked not to panic about this development, but to take precautionary measures to ensure that they and their family members remain healthy. Health assistants undertook a door-to-door visit and checked the health of the children. The school has declared holiday till December 8.

Dr Bairy has advised people to get treated if they suffer from fever coupled with cough and throat pain. Breathing problems and acute fever also should be referred to the doctors immediately. People suffering from fever should remain at home till they completely recover. While coughing and sneezing, they should cover their mouths and noses with a cloth. People who come into contact with sick people and also those visiting public places should immediately wash their hands properly. They should also as far as possible, remain away from crowded places, he said.
