Kasargod: Policemen Book Cases against Over 50, Leaders Get Many Released

Kasargod, Dec 8: The town policemen have registered murder attempt cases against over 50 people for their roles in the disturbances during the undeclared bandh observed in the district on Sunday December 6.

The cases pertain to forcing the people to close their shops, damaging vehicles, attacking people moving on two-wheelers, intercepting buses, damaging them, threatening and attacking their employees, etc.

About a thousand policemen, deployed to the district from Southern Kerala districts for security purposes, have gone back to their bases.

In the meanwhile, allegedly, MLA, C T Ahmedali, and leaders of some other parties brought prssure on the policemen to release a few of their followers. On Sunday night, Ahmedali, municipal vice-president, A Abdurrahman, Mammuchala etc., went to the town police station here by leading a huge crowd that had several women. They got some of the  arrested youths released, by exerting pressure on the police personnel. There are allegations that the policemen were unwilling to release the accused at first, but had to bend to various pressures brought on them by the leaders and their followers.
