Bangalore, Dec 8: In what could turn out to be another major hurdle for the mining activities in Bellary, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) informed on Monday December 7, that it has been preparing an action plan about the environmental pollution caused by the mining activity in Bellary district.

KSPCB chairman, A S Sadashivaiah, when asked about the non-availability of clean water in several parts of Bellary district, revealed that the Board is aware of the ground reality, and that an action plan is in the making to address the issue. He however, said that it would take a few months for the plan to be implemented properly.

He gave this information, while speaking at a seminar organized by NGO Acts Trust in the city. The seminar was held on the subject of ‘Education and Climate Change’, in which Swiss scientist, Prof Eva Shuepbach of the European Commission’s Unique Accent Community addressed the participants.

Sadashivam felt that it is necessary to spread awareness among all age groups, and in this context, educationists can help the concerned a lot. He said that the adverse climate changes that have the potential to mar human existence can be illustrated through pictorials and e-learning materials. He added that the Board would be eager to join hands with NGOs in this regard.

In her address, Prof Eva opined that it is necessary for the people to imbibe changes in their attitudes, for the success of the programme to slow down the climatic change. To make every one aware of pollution and ways to minimize it, the way in which the knowledge is imparted should be lucid and simple, so that even a lay man would be able to appreciate it, she opined.
